Landscape, materials, shape, color, layout and more can harmonize site, building and occupant. We are not rigid, and apply Feng Shui* to assess and balance impacts of land forms and structures, supporting client needs and enhancing the intention of the design rather than dictating. We [likely] won’t ask you to move a wall, but may recommend more Wood or Earth energy around the toilet.
Central to Feng Shui, and our overall practice, is the concept of ‘Wu Xing’ — the Taoist elemental phases. It is an intuitive [and logical] method for interpreting the current state and needs of environments, people, relationships and activities, and neatly corresponds to building materials and features.
*We practice BTB and Landform Feng Shui, using the primary/natural entrance to a site or building vs. Compass methods, which use the cardinal directions. We believe ‘good Feng Shui’ is based on realistic and relatable applications of traditional principles.
Thoughtful and purposeful references to nature including materials, patterns and themes are proven to benefit health on several levels. As nature is deeply familiar, it can effectively relax or stimulate the nervous system, depending on the application. Biophilic Design principles are built around the positive effects nature has on our senses, body systems, and mental health.
With our experience in Feng Shui/ Ayurveda and understanding of the Elemental cycles and relationships for creating harmony, we can apply biophilic design on a deeply strategic level.
We often hear ‘if it’s on the shelves, it must be safe.’ Sadly, this is far from true as studies are regularly proving the negative health impacts of many chemicals used regularly in building materials.
As chemicals from materials frequently off-gas or wear off, low toxicity materials are vital for healthy IAQ, high-touch surfaces and more. Building material and furnishing recommendations can be delivered as a BOD with chemical limits, or by helping source specific products and materials.
Whether seeking certification or using the standard as a framework, we can apply features of WELL, Fitwel and Living Building and act as project managers if certification is desired.
These building standards offer a holistic structure to address multiple layers of wellness, ranging from air and water quality to operational procedures.
We live with the land [not on it] and believe regenerative practices start by building a respectful relationship with the earth that supports us. Space clearings can be conducted on existing buildings, or the land to help shift ‘stuck’ or unneeded energy.
Groundbreaking and Land Ceremonies are a way to share intentions for the space, balance energy, integrate parcels of land, and more. These practices can align with any spiritual belief system [or none at all] and are best performed in participation with the owners.
A majority of the fee for a Ceremony is made as a donation to the indigenous tribe or band that tended the land prior to colonization.
Custom audio and consulting for those looking to incorporate a holistic/ balancing dimension to their background music or space :
SOUND ARCHITECTURE : considering acoustics beyond noise mitigation, we work with architects and acousticians to consider how a space should sound, and the effects on the occupants. Proportion and materials are primary considerations.
ENVIRONMENTAL SOUND DESIGN : a more subtle version of ‘background music,’ we produce custom audio for business or residences to develop sonic branding or shift the energy of a space throughout the day [can be incorporated with sound masking systems].
